Quentin Miller 30 April, 2018 Senior Project Day One Internship Time: 8.5h Blog Time: 0.5h Product Time: 3h Total: 12h Today was the first day of the internship (volunteership). The day mostly consisted of becoming aquatinted with the office atmosphere, the work culture, and the idea of getting a better understanding of what Salesforce is as a company and how it connects users, companies, and customers through data and analytics. The office is located about 25 minutes (walking) from were I am staying and I needed to be at the office at 10:00. Upon arrival, I needed to get a card from the building security and then I met my host. The introduction was followed by an orientation of the office space and meeting many of the main individuals at the office, including the manager of Salesforce Iberia. All of the information and everything that had and that has to do with the internship is nearly completely in Spanish. I then received an on-boarding session from one of the senior memb...

Quentin Miller 26 April, 2018 Senior Project Week Nine Blog So far on my Senior Project, I have acquired an internship, completed nearly all of the research required to construct my product, and began the actual creation of my product. I have completed two maps, one of which is a comprehensive guide to the neighborhoods of San Francisco, and have completed much of the planning for some of the many more maps I have yet to make. As mentioned in previous posts, my maps will pertain to a variety of areas within geography from diagrams of flight maps to geographic features. The research for my research blogs provided me with much of the background information that I will need to create many of my maps. That said, I will need to do some additional research regarding some of the more geographical elements and information. As for my internship, I have obviously never had any experience working in another country, let alone in another language. For my, I am somewhat nervous about if my Spa...

Quentin Miller 19 April, 2018 Senior Project Week Eight Blog This blog post will serve as a general update regarding my progress thus far and my plan for the rest of Senior Project. Since the last non-research blog, I have confirmed my internship/volunteership and have started working on my product for the project. I will be interning (of course without pay) at the Salesforce office in Madrid, Spain. I will arrive in Madrid on Saturday 28 April and depart Madrid on 18 May. Note that I will be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times for liability reasons and that this trip has been approved by the school and by the company. During my time there I intend to be working with the internship for a large part of each day. In the time when I will not be working, I will be able to concentrate my efforts on creating my product though making maps. This process may appear simple, but is realistically a highly time consuming process that, while exciting and interesting to me, requires a ...

Quentin Miller 12 April, 2018 Senior Project W7 Research Blog Air Transportation and Globalization In today’s increasingly globalized world where connection, efficiency, time, and speed are valued, air travel and transportation plays a crucial role in connecting the world’s people, commodities, and cultures. Each day, there are over 100,000 commercial flights (excluding cargo flights) that transport over 1.7 million people (and cargo) between more than 17,000 commercial airports. Airplanes have created a whole new realm of mobility that enables people to travel further and faster in less time than any other form of transportation (by a large margin). In addition to serving as the go to for long distance passenger travel, air traffic is responsible for a large portion of long distance shipping, especially on the international scale. In a world where most goods and services must cross vast expanses of open ocean before being sold, air transportation of freight and other cargo e...
